Bio

Gustavo Borchert is a jazz and classically trained professional musician and music educator, originally from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

He began his drum set and percussion studies with Chiquinho Azevedo, Elber Bedaque and Luiz D’Anunciação in his home town. He also studied harmony, composition and orchestration with Nelson de Macedo. After relocating to New York City, he continued his musical studies under Joe Morello, Danny Gottlieb, John Riley, Ben Perowsky, Hal Galper, Ed Neumaister, Michael Abene, Ludmilla Ulehla, among others.

Gustavo Borchert has played nationally and internationally, from jazz trios and pop-rock bands to symphony orchestras, has accompanied from ballet, operetta and musicals to live film screening. He worked with acclaimed Brazilian groups, solo artists, conductors and producers from around the world. He also researched and published, nationally and internationally, both in the fields of Political Psychology and Musicology. As a long time political activist, he also wrote articles on the subject of human rights.

After living and working in New York City and spending 17 years abroad in Lisbon, Glasgow, Turku (Finland) as well as Rio de Janeiro, Gustavo Borchert is currently a permanent resident in the US, living in Lawrence, KS and has since contributed with bands such as Bopaphonics and The Sons of Brasil.
